UPDATES IN RED ON EACH TIER
How has your week been? Champions League went OK for your boy Duke. $2,400 later with a King of the PITCH seat is one way to get er done!
For those who don’t know, the King of Pitch contest is the big qualifier on April 7th with a fairly large 1st place prize of $25k. I’m gunning for that top prize but April is forever and a day away. There are plenty of qualifiers and satellites left. The entry fee into the contest I won was $100. There are smaller and larger contests available. This is a QUALIFIER, meaning you are probably going to lose. Enter at your own risk. Let’s build the bankroll between now and then.
We keep rolling along and remember, it’s a LONG season. Don’t blow your load because we’ve had a little success and be sure to manager your bankroll properly. (***please take your own advice Duke***)
Let’s get to this week’s slate. As always, we’ll look at things from a PickEm perspective. This can be translated over to the CLASSIC mode as well. I’M NOT PLAYING HEAVY THIS WEEKEND. TERRIBLE SLATE OF GAMES AND I’M GOING TO PLAY, BUT ONLY 30-50% OF USUAL MONEY.
Everyone and their monther will be all over Tottenham. No KANE means the OBVIOUS play is out of bounds. Thank God because he’d be 95% and only because 5% forget to set lineups every week.
I haven’t really like Eriksen of late. I don’t know for sure that Spurs put 3-4 past Stoke but they are going to score so taking a Spurs player makes sense. Stoke have given up 30 goals this year, most in the slate.
If you do, I wouldn’t mind jumping back in on the Alli bandwagon. Min scored a goal in the Champion’s League and if he get’s the start it’s worth a look. Lamela is coming back from long term injury and isn’t on my radar quite yet.
I’m a Richarlison mark. I play him almost every week and it made me a ton of money earlier in the season. He has been a bit out of form and even though Watford have been scoring, they are on the road. Burnley have only conceded 14 goals and are rock solid at the back.
Zaha? Meh. He’s a mental midget and does perform better at home historically. He could be worth a flyer if you want to get contrarian but there will be enough ownership spread around that we don’t have to get cute.
Let’s rank em
NO UPDATES. ALL START
TIER 1: Alli, Eriksen, Richarlison, Min, Zaha
I like Gross, Shaqiri and Ritchie in this tier.
Pascal has been very consistent all year and has the easiest matchup in the tier with Huddersfield who are conceding goals at a record pace the last few games.
Ritchie is at home and on set piece duty. He can pop up with an assist and is good for 6-15 points depending on the outcome of the game. Leicester are playing expansive soccer and there will be gaps for him to exploit.
Shaqiri has been on FIRE lately. They will be on the back foot for most of the game but absolutely have to score to get any kind of result. Shaqiri has been involved in nearly every goal the last 2 months for Stoke and that will continue tomorrow if they put one (or more) past Tottenham. Let’s not forget, Tottenham’s own form has been pretty shitty of late.
Mahrez is whatever. The guy is just so hit or miss and on the road v a Newcastle team trying to break out of skid isn’t the place I see him going off.
Cabaye is banged up and doesn’t have the upside for me to go there. Townsend is a bit of the same but healthy.
Llorente was the hero at midweek with a goal and assist but make no mistake, he’s back to the bench.
NO MAJOR UPDATES. RITCHIE AND MAHREZ GIVE YOU THE AFTERNOON HAMMER. AT LEAST 1 OF THE 2 WILL START BUT MOST LIKELY BOTH. STILL LIKE GROSS AND SHAQIRI BETTER.
CABAYE DOES START WITH TOWNSEND. NO LLORENTE AS EXPECTED
TIER 2: Gross, Shaqiri, Ritchie, Mahrez
Do you take the Tottenham outside backs or one of Stanislas/Wilson?
Actually….none of the above. Look, Trippier is the safe pick. He’ll probably be chalk, assuming he starts. Honestly, that’s probably the best pick but I’m most likely going elsewhere.
Gudmundsson will be asked to pick up the load for the injured Brady. He’s already been a DFS stud and with the added usage, I like this spot at home v a Watford team that has conceded 26 goals.
I also like Vardy a bit here. He doesn’t do a ton to pick up points so we HAVE to have a goal to get near the top of the group. I’ll be using him more in the CLASSIC mode of play than the Pick Em
Mooy’s FPPG are boosted by a couple of big games early but I don’t see him having that much influence on the game tomorrow. He is at home against fellow strugglers Brighton but understand what you are getting into.
NO MAJOR UPDATES. TRIPPIER STARTS. SAFE PLAY
TIER 3: Gudmundsson, Trippier, Davies/
Rose, Mooy, Vardy, Stanislas
Fuck me… Tier 4 is a little early to playing in the trash.
Holebas is solid. I think this is actually a game he can get forward quite a bit and whip crosses into the box. Burley aren’t necessarily the massive possession attacking force of someone like an Arsenal. Watford will have some of the ball.
If Aurier starts over Trippier, just play him.
King has found the scoresheet recently but Palace, for as terrible as they are, have been a bit solid at the back. Fraser has as well… Crystal Palace are banged up everywhere. Calling for a Bournemouth win on the road never feels great but….
Robson-Kanu, if he starts, is worth a look. West Brom have been better since letting Pulis go and he’s been a piece of it. He doesn’t always make the first 11 but if he does, you can go there.
Member when people thought Benteke was worth $50 million? Member?? He sucks but could score. Maybe again, more of a CLASSIC flyer than here.
FINALLY A TIER WITH MAJOR MOVEMENT. NO AURIER AS TRIPPIER STARTS. NO HOLEBAS! NO KNOCKAERT.
WHAT WE ARE LEFT WITH IS A BUNCH OF GOAL SCORERS AND FRASER. WHO’S MOST LIKELY TO SCORE? PROBABLY JOSH KING AND HE CAN DO A BIT OUTSIDE OF JUST SCORING. MAYBE BENTEKE ISN’T SUCH A CRAZY PLAY!
Holebas, King, Knockaert, Robson-Kanu, FRASER, BENTEKE/MURRAY
This feels like a Chris Wood tier. AGain, gross but that’s what you get in Tier 5 and thankfully, now 6 since there aren’t any GKs. He’s been hit or miss but I think he finds the scoresheet for a nice 10 pt boost.
Choupo-Moting has been OK in big games this year with a great 2 goal performance against United but is this really the spot we see him shine?
Tammy Abraham has flashed but Swansea just STINK going forward. Risky play there. Wilf Bony is back and scored last week as well… Maybe a fade for me.
Albrighton hasn’t been a first team mainstay like the championship year but in a group with few good options, I don’t mind going there. He has a 5 cross floor and can pop up with an assist. He also takes a few set pieces for easy points.
Rondon has been hot and cold this year. If he starts in a front 2 I have interest.
**no CLEAR favorite in this tier. Mix it up.
STILL LIKING WOOD. WE WON’T KNOW ABOUT ALBRIGHTON UNTIL AFTER LOCK. YOUR PIVOT IS JOSELU (SUCKS) OR GAYLE (MEH) IF HE DOESN’T START. KEEP THAT IN MIND.
NO HEMED. RONDON DOES START BUT ON THE ROAD…
TIER 5: Wood, Albrighton,
Hemed, Rondon, Gayle
I don’t mind going back to the Bournemouth well with Daniels. He’s been solid all year.
Diouf is always a goal threat and like Shaqiri, if Stoke do score it will probably be those two involved.
I really like Tom Ince in this spot. Surprisingly, he’s done everything but score. If he gets a goal we are definitely seeing the high score in the tier.
Loftus-Cheek has been asked to do more the last month and it’s shown through. Risky but decent play.
Nkodou got a goal but won’t see the field here. He may not even make the bench. If by chance he does start, get a share or two.
OK plays: Bony (scored last week), Defoe (if healthy and starting), Ayew (Swans may score, right?), Mitrovic and Sanches.
NO SURPRISES AND I’M FINE WITH THE ORDER BELOW
TIER 6: Ince, Diouf, Bony, Loftus-Cheek
GOOD LUCK AND REMEMBER, I’M NOT IN LOVE WITH THIS SLATE AND WILL BE PLAYING LIGHT.
