Bounce back week after we got to see these teams all play a week ago. Let’s roll!
- Noon / ESPN U | 34 Northwestern -2.5 @Duke | 2 Units
Duke will have a solid squad this season but this Northwestern team is a major step up from the NC Central team Duke slaughtered a week ago. Justin Jackson will go off in this game but the continued development of QB Clayton Thorson and the passing game will be the key in this game and throughout the year as I make Northwestern a surprise contender in the Big Ten West.
2. Noon / ESPN 2 | 39 Iowa (-3) @Iowa St. | 1 Unit
The rivalry could be back with Matt Campbell steadily improving this Iowa St. club led by UGa transfer QB Jacob Park. They have a legit NFL WR in Allen Lazard and a solid running game. Iowa on the other hand is VERY under the radar this year but have an awesome 1-2 punch in the backfield with Akrum Wadley and Nevada transfer James Butler. They also have a sneaky good QB in Nathan Stanley but it is the line of scrimmages and a nasty Hawkeye defense that will be the difference in this one. All of the so called experts are getting cute and taking Iowa St. here but the Iowa front 7, featuring stud LB Josey Jewell will be in the Cyclone backfield all day long and force them to win through the air. This won’t be the prettiest win but I like the Hawkeyes to control this one throughout and come away with a nice win.
3. Noon | #19 Kansas St. (-35) v. Charlotte | 1 Unit
K-State will absolutely roll in this one with an improved offense behind Jesse Ertz and a NASTY defense that won’t allow Charlotte a damn thing on offense. Expect a few picks, maybe a couple for a score and this one should be in hand by the 3rd quarter. No back door covers here.
4. Noon / ESPN | #17 Louisville @ North Carolina (O63) | 1 Unit
Despite the embarrassing loss a week ago to Cal, I think North Carolina has found their QB. The talk was about LSU transfer Brandon Harris coming in and possibly finding his game in a new setting but he was terrible again with a couple picks but it was Chazz Surratt who came in and really got the offense moving. Carolina has some interesting backs also with Jordon Brown and True FR, Michael Carter and this offense will keep them in games this season. The defense is another story, though, and that is why we’re taking the OVER in this one, as we all know what Lamar and these gigantic receivers can do. This one should be a shootout and I see Louisville throwing anywhere from 45-60 on the board here themselves and I like the Tar Heels just enough on offense to put up at least 20-30 so I’d expect this ticket to be cashed heading into the 4Q.
Back with more later.
