Wisconsin

9:00 : ESPN | Utah St. @ #9 Wisconsin | Wisconsin -27.5, O/U 52.5

Wisconsin is one of my favorite teams across the nation this year as represented by purchasing four ticket reserves for their National Title hopes. They came off a brutal schedule LY to come away with a Big Ten Titel Game appearance and a big Cotton Bowl win. They have a ton back this year, including by far the best offensive attack under Chryst. Hornibrook was up and down last year but I believe in this lefty as he has legit arm strength and the gun slinger mentality to make every throw. Yes, he will throw some picks but they need him making plays if they are going to make a true run at a National Title. This Wisconsin backfield is absolutely loaded with talent and go 4-deep at RB. I don’t even care who gets the carries because I could see any of these guys putting up huge numbers between this massive offensive line (also the best OL under Chryst). They have 2 Pitt transfers in Chris James and Rachid Ibrahim but also have two big, physical backs in Bradrick Shaw and Taiwan Deal. Against a smallish Utah St front I would expect them to pound away for 300+ tonight. They can also keep this defense off balance with play actions to two enormously talented threats in the passing game with Jazz Peavy and Troy Fumagalli. I would expect Peavy to score on a reverse tonight and Fumagalli should catch around 10 balls tonight whether Utah St decides to walk a safety down or leave the LB’s in coverage. Needless to say, it’s pick your poison tonight with this Wisconsin offense.

On the other side of the ball, Wisconsin suffered a devastating loss just a couple weeks ago when it was announced that MLB Jack Cichy would be out for the year with an ACL. Despite that loss, Wisconsin is still absolutely loaded in this front 7 and will be in the Utah St backfield all night long. Utah St only has one returning starter on the OL and match up with a big front 3 for Wisconsin that will occupy double teams all night and allow the LB’s to fly and make plays in the backfield. TJ Edwards will be taking the handoffs from the QB and should have a massive night. The secondary of Wisconsin is strong once again, as well, and Utah St should be behind schedule on offense all night, forcing Kent Myers to toss in unfavorable 2nd and 3rd and longs, which is a death sentence against the Badgers. I don’t see Utah St putting more than 10-13 on the board and Wisconsin may run for 300-400 yards tonight. Utter domination by the Badgers.

Steve Addazio

9:30 : CBS SN | Boston College @ Northern Illinois | Boston College -4, O/U 47

Steve Addazio finally has somes DUDES on offense. This is not going to be Louisville or Clemson by any means on the offensive side of the ball but compared to what we’ve seen thusfar under Addazio, this will be a significant improvement on offense. We will probably see a combination of Darius Wade and Anthony Brown but both are dual threats who can cause some problems for defenses. They will still pound away, mostly with Jon Hilliman but they have some of the best TE’s in the nation that will allow these QB’s to get comfortable early in the passing game.

The defense of BC has been and always will be nasty under Addazio and are led by a 1st rounder in next April’s draft, Harold Landry. Northern Illinois has issues all over the field on offense for the second year in a row but will try to get the running game going early. Good luck. BC has one of he stingiest run defenses in the nation year in and year out so NIU will have to get the passing game going to have any hope of moving the ball against this BC defense. I don’t see it happening, especially considering this may be the best secondary in the Addazio era. BC defense will dominate and the offense will show flashes of greatness against a suddenly rebuilding NIU squad. Big road win for Boston College.
