8:00 : ESPN | #2 Ohio State @ Indiana | Ohio St. -20.5, O/U 56
THIS is the true start to the college football season! Running short on time so I’ll give just a quick overview here. The Buckeyes main issues on offense last year, which were exposed against Michigan and Clemson, were a combination of pass protection off the right side (Isaiah Prince), receivers that could not create separation and an absolute lack of a downfield passing game. Buckeye fans are really hoping these atheltic receivers stepping in will all of the sudden be supreme route runners, Isaiah Prince will stop getting speed rushed around the edge, and Kevin Wilson will be the magician calling plays and bring the deep ball back into the game plan. I’m a Buckeye fan so I could see all of those things happening lol but it’s not likely that all three improve significantly all of the sudden. This Indiana defense is no joke either, as Tegray Scales may be one of the best LB’s in the nation and the secondary will no doubt be up in press man coverage all night long attempting to force the hand of the Bucks.
This is the biggest game in the history of Indiana in Bloomington according to new head man Tom Allen but I think anyone who has been in that stadium for an OSU/IU matchup will tell you that this is a basketball fan base and the Buckeye fans will have the O-H-I-O going around the stadium by the 3rd quarter, as we always have more fans than IU in Bloomington. I actually had an IU fan tell me one year there that they actually like when Ohio State comes to town because it’s the only time the place is full. At any rate, I find it hard to see IU putting up more than 13 or so points in this one as the OSU defensive line is the best I have seen in a long time, going a legit 3-deep with guys who could be starters. The LB’s are no joke either with Baker and Worley back on big seasons, Dante Booker back off injury, and 4-5 star backups for days. The secondary is where everyone will point to as a weakness with 3 top draft picks gone but we are just reloading again, particularly at CB where we have Denzel Ward, Jeffrey Okudah, Damon Arnette and Kendall Sheffield in an extremely talented rotation. Damon Webb is solid at safety and Jordan Fuller could be the new Malik Hooker who always seems to find the ball.
The Buckeyes may look a little sluggish with all the new guys in the fold but I expect the defense to be dominant, force some TO’s against a VERY turnover prone QB from IU in Lagow, and get the offense humming from the 2nd quarter on. Buckeyes will be very impressive by the end of the night. Prediction is Ohio St. 41-13.
