New boy Nemanja Matic gets his first start for United. Nothing beats Wednesday afternoon football to blow off work.
There is a lot to like about the squad so let’s have a look.
- 3-5-2: I think this formation suits the squad the best. The Matic signing is so underrated to provide balance in the midfield allowing Pogba and Pereira/Herrera to get forward.
- Matic/Lindelof/Lukaku: All 3 new boys get a run out in our last friendly. Not for nothing but 6’4″, 6’1″, and 6’2″. Mourinho has his giants.
- Passing out of the back: With Lindelof and Blind on either side of Smalling we should have 2 players capable of picking a pass out of the back. This allows Smalling to defend.
- Squad depth: Bailly, Mata, Rashford, Martial, Carrick, Fellaini…..United quietly has nearly 2 full squads worth of quality. Let’s not forget Fosu-Mensah, Tuanzebe and McTominay.
So there you have it. I’d like to see at least 2 goals out of the team today with this team getting 65 minutes together. Reminder that Bailly will be suspended v Real Madrid and our first Champion’s League game.
